Pretty meets Investment {Shiplap}

"Shiplap"

noun & verb;

fit (boards) together

Shiplap. A word that's been soaring around our society since HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper debuted. Historically, shiplap in a home's interior was never meant to be exposed, but as time went on and older historic homes became renovated, homeowners and designers began to rave about the exposed boards and it's cozy character.

Accent Wall

Fast forward to today. Alex and I's "new" house is a 1960's brick ranch, but luckily when we bought it, it had been renovated. As we were under contract, we knew we wanted to incorporate an accent shiplap wall to bring in that coastal charm. We decided to shiplap the wall our TV would be mounted on in the main living space, right off the kitchen. We LOVE how it turned out and how many compliments we get on it's unique feature. We painted it the same as the white trim color to give it a subtle contrast to our wall color,  Benjamin Moore Classic Grey. See images below of the installed shiplap.

{As you can tell, Simms loves it}

This room is a work in progress, but I am loving how it is coming together. Trying to decide if the mirrors will stay, may add two swivel chairs on each side of the console, also - the console needs some major shelf decor love!

We would one day love to add bookcases on each side of the shiplap wall like this:

Popcorn Ceiling

When we moved in our house, we had ONE popcorn ceiling. We have a cozy back den that happens to be my favorite room in the house, but that popcorn ceiling wasn't cutting it. As our contractor was installing the accent wall, he mentioned we should just shiplap the one popcorn ceiling, much easier than scraping the popcorn off and the ceiling would compliment the accent wall. What really captured our attention were these words: "It's not just a pretty feature, it's a major selling point and investment." Done. Alex and I were all in. The ceiling is now shiplapped in the back den and it could not of turned out better. I love how much character this room has.

Closing Off a Door

Alex's grandmother recently bought a gorgeous house with fantastic bones, with one odd feature. There are two entrances to the master bedroom. One entrance is from the hallway (normal) and the other entrance is from her kitchen/dining space (odd.)

Can you guess what she had done to solve the problem? Shiplap! Take a look at the images below of the before and after of the space. Such a smart move to shiplap the door opening to create one seamless, natural way into the master bedroom. (and I love the coastal touch it added to the space)
